Facial lipofilling is a surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the face and correct the skin irregularities of the face. Lipofilling can correct the thining and sagging of the cheeks, lips, chin and jaw due to the reduced skin elasticity. Fat grafting may permanently reduce wrinkles or fine lines due to aging and add volume to specific areas of the face.
You can choose facial lipofilling if:
- you want to rejuvenate your facial appearance
- you want to improve your facial silhouette
- you want to accentuate some of your facial traits
- you are looking for lasting results
- you don’t want to have foreign bodies (implants)
Two interventions in cosmetic surgery, liposuction and fat injection, are strategically applied for facial lipofilling. The liposuction is performed from specific parts of the body where fat deposits are localised, using a hollow metal surgical instrument called a cannula. The fat can be obtained from different parts of the body such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, back and other places through small incisions.
Once the unwanted fat is extracted, it is concentrated. The adipose tissue is separated from other body tissues and then purified. The processed fat is then re-injected to the specific regions of the face by multiple injections at different depths to obtain the best results.
The best candidates for a facial lipofilling are:
- in good health
- emotionally well-balanced
- men and women who have realistic expectations about what this surgery can accomplish
- men and women who have excess weight or a sufficient amount of localized fat
- men and women who choose facial rejuvenation using their own fat
Alternative treatments
Facial lipofilling is considered elective surgery. One option would be not to undergo facial fat injections. Fillers containing hyaluronic acid or other products can reduce wrinkles and increase the volume of specific regions of the face. An additional volume can also be achieved by (silicone) implants.
